The course is designed to emphasize the study of the properties and applications of common geometric figures in two and three dimensions.  It includes the study of transformations and some right triangle trigonometry.  Inductive and deductive thinking skills are used in problem solving situations. Geometry introduces the study of points, segments, triangles, polygons, circles, solid figures, similarity, transformations, and coordinate Geometry.  Specific topics covered include angles, intersecting lines, right triangles, perimeter, area, volume, circles, triangle congruency, quadrilaterals, analytic geometry, and geometric constructions. It's difficult to imagine any area of math that is more widely used than geometry.

Mathematics has its own language, and the acquisition of specialized vocabulary and language patterns is crucial to a student's understanding and appreciation of the subject. Students are encouraged to use correctly the concepts, skills, symbols, and vocabulary identified in the course.

Problem solving is integrated throughout the different components of the curriculum. The development of problem-solving skills is a goal of the course. Instruction in the process of problem solving will help students develop a wide range of skills and strategies for solving a variety of problem types.
