Consumer Math 2011

information
This page is open to all but is specifically for students of Consumer Math by Judy Howe copyright 1998 by A BEKA. The text covers topics that practically everyone needs to deal with at some time or another, yet which most people struggle to figure out on their own. Topics such as buying a car, income, budgeting, food, clothing, banking, taxes, and small business are covered in depth. For example, buying a car is divided into a series of very practical lessons covering factors to consider and work through such as selecting the appropriate car (including cost comparison vs. utility), taxes and fees, financing, depreciation, insurance, maintenance and repair, annual operating cost, and leasing. Lessons on taxes require students to get actual tax forms and learn how to complete them. All links are coordinated with the sections of the listed text. Students are encouraged to make helpful suggestions that would improve the usefulness of this page. If you are attempting the Problem Challenge, be sure to include all your work with the solution.

Fred loves to eat pancakes. One day he started by eating one pancake. Then, every 10 minutes he ate twice as many pancakes as the 10 minutes before. How many pancakes did he eat in 4 hours?

You should:
be neat, orderly, and legible
show your work
explain what you did
